Co-Founder

Also called Cofounder

A person who starts a company with you, sharing the earliest risk, ownership, and work. Usually brings complementary skills, a builder alongside a seller.

Why it matters

The co-founder relationship is one of the biggest determinants of a startup's success or failure, more than the idea. Choosing the right partner, and agreeing on equity, roles, and vesting early, is among the most consequential decisions a founder makes.

For example

A technical founder who can build teams up with a commercial co-founder who can sell, each covering the other's blind spot.
