User Onboarding
Also called Onboarding
The experience that guides a new user from signing up to getting real value, setup, first actions, and the aha moment. Distinct from onboarding a new employee.
Why it matters
Onboarding is where most new users are won or lost: a confusing start kills otherwise good products. Because it sits right before activation, small improvements here often move retention more than anything downstream.
For example
A finance app's onboarding walks a new user from signup to linking a bank and seeing their first insight in under two minutes, before they lose interest.
