How people use AI now

  1. People are moving from chatting with AI to handing it whole tasks and letting agents act for them. anthropic.com anthropic.com 2 menlovc.com
  2. Coding has moved from autocomplete to coding agents, which are now the largest single use of AI for developers and the largest line of enterprise AI spend. survey.stackoverflow.co a16z.com menlovc.com blogs.microsoft.com
  3. Growth now comes from existing users going deeper and paying more, while the share of people using AI rises slowly. menlovc.com openai.com blogs.microsoft.com
  4. Most use is personal rather than work: people ask AI for advice, explanations, health answers and recommendations as much as they use it to produce work. openai.com anthropic.com menlovc.com
  5. AI chatbots are becoming a way to find information and news, but trust in their answers lags well behind use. reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk survey.stackoverflow.co menlovc.com
  6. People use more than one assistant: ChatGPT still leads by far, but Gemini and Claude are growing faster in paid users and many people use two. a16z.com pewresearch.org
  7. Use is spreading fastest in lower-income countries and through free or bundled plans, yet the gap between rich and poor countries is still widening. openai.com blogs.microsoft.com engadget.com
