Do I need personal accident or disability cover, not just life insurance?

The short answer

It is worth understanding the gap. Term life insurance pays your family if you die, but it does nothing if you are alive and can no longer earn, say after an accident or a disabling illness. For a founder whose family leans on your income, losing that income to disability can be as damaging as losing it to death, and the odds of a long disability during your working years are not tiny. A personal accident plan and, for some, a disability or critical-illness rider are the tools that cover this, replacing income or paying a lump sum when you cannot work. Read exactly what counts as disability in the policy, since definitions vary a lot and decide whether it pays. Terms, premiums, and any tax treatment change over time, so confirm current details with a licensed advisor. This is general education, not a product recommendation.
