What happens to my family if I die with personal guarantees or loans tied to my startup?

This is the part founders often miss. Many startup loans, credit lines, and leases ask the founder for a personal guarantee, which means the debt does not simply die with the company or with you. If you have signed personal guarantees or taken loans against personal assets, your estate (and sometimes your family) can be on the hook, and your personal savings or home could be pulled in to settle them. The practical guard is to know exactly which obligations you have personally guaranteed, and to size your term life cover so it can clear those debts and still leave your family supported, not just replace lost income. Keep a written list of these guarantees where your family can find it. Guarantee terms and the law around them are specific and change, so confirm your actual exposure with a lawyer or CA. This is general education, not advice.
