How do I break into RevOps when I have never had the title?

Almost nobody starts in RevOps. People arrive from sales development, marketing ops, customer success ops, finance, or a Salesforce or HubSpot admin seat, and the common thread is that they were already solving process problems where they sat. So build proof rather than applying cold: take over the reporting nobody wants in your current job, learn enough SQL and spreadsheet modelling to pull and clean your own data, and get a CRM admin certification since it is the cheapest credibility available. It also helps enormously to have carried a bag or sat next to someone who did, because RevOps is a relationship job as much as a systems job.

  • Concrete starting points named: Salesforce Trailhead, Winning by Design, and communities like RevOps Co-op, Pavilion, and RevGenius.

  • Benchmarks it sets: one booked meeting per rep per day, at least one demo a day per SDR, and 50 to 60 calls a day.
  • Tie compensation to activities you control (meetings set, demos given) rather than to revenue attainment.
  • Plot reps on engagement against close ratio: high engagement with a low close ratio is trainable, and those reps moved to the top quadrant in two to three months.
  • Gate free trials by rule (this size range, this industry) instead of offering them to everyone.
