A guide to deposit insurance

DICGC Free Beginner India

The deposit insurer's own guide to what is covered when an Indian bank fails, and how the limit is counted.

  • Each depositor is insured up to ₹5 lakh per bank, principal and interest together, across all branches of that bank.
  • Savings, fixed, current and recurring deposits are covered; mutual funds, shares and bonds are not.
  • Deposits at different banks, and accounts held in different capacities, are insured separately.
