Can my CA also handle my investing, or is that a separate job?

The short answer

They overlap but they are not the same job. A good CA is invaluable for tax filing, structuring your salary and ESOPs, capital gains, and staying compliant, which for a founder is real, ongoing work. But tax expertise is not the same as investment planning: deciding your asset allocation, how much to keep liquid, and how to de-risk a net worth locked in one startup is a different skill set. Some CAs do offer investment help, and that can work well if they are genuinely qualified for it, but be clear about which hat they are wearing and how they are paid for each. A common setup is a CA for tax and compliance plus a fee-only planner for the money strategy, with the two talking to each other. Tax rules change often, so confirm specifics with your CA rather than relying on general guidance like this.
