Deep Tech Startup

Also called Deep Tech and Deeptech

A category of DPIIT recognition created on 4 February 2026 for startups whose product rests on new scientific or engineering knowledge, with high R&D spending and significant novel IP. They stay recognised for up to 20 years from incorporation with turnover up to ₹300 crore, against 10 years and ₹200 crore for other startups.

Why it matters

Deep tech takes longer to reach revenue, so the old ten-year clock often ran out before such a company had a product in market. The longer window keeps it eligible for startup benefits through that stretch, and the government's Fund of Funds 2.0 names deep tech as a priority. Applicants have to submit evidence that they meet the criteria.

For example

A semiconductor design startup founded in 2014, still before scale in 2026, applies as a deep tech startup so it stays recognised past its tenth year.
