I run a company. Should I even try to pick stocks?

The short answer

Usually not much, and that is fine. Picking stocks well is a full time craft, and your full time craft is already your company. The opportunity cost is real: hours on a portfolio are hours not on your product, and your single biggest bet, your own equity, is already high risk and undiversified. The honest default for most founders is to automate a boring index core and cap any direct stock picking at a small, clearly optional slice, treated as a hobby rather than a strategy. Concentration in your company is your growth bet; the rest of your money should be calm.
