Leading a GTM team

Which GTM roles is AI actually eliminating, and which are becoming more valuable?

What is shrinking is volume work: high output cold outreach, list building, basic qualification, tier one support. Job posting data backs this up rather than just vibes, with SDR and BDR postings down sharply and support roles down the most of any GTM role. What is growing is anything that combines commercial judgment with technical ability: GTM engineering, sales engineering, solutions architecture, and senior sellers who handle complex multi stakeholder deals. The pattern inside teams is fewer and more senior people rather than none, a small number of strategic BDRs supported by automation instead of a floor of twenty. Notably, the AI companies selling automation are among the ones hiring the most human sellers, which should tell you how far the replacement story actually goes. If you are a leader, the honest planning assumption is that your team gets smaller and more expensive per head, and that your next hire needs to be able to build something, not just work a list.

It puts a number on the contraction (36 percent of B2B companies cut SDR teams in 2025, mostly through attrition) while arguing that fully autonomous AI SDRs have not replaced anyone at scale. The resulting shape, fewer and more senior BDRs supported by agents, is the specific planning assumption a leader needs.

From Landbase by Daniel Saks 12 min read

  • 36 percent of B2B companies cut SDR teams in 2025, mostly through attrition rather than layoffs.
  • Bain Capital Ventures research cited: fully autonomous AI SDRs have not replaced humans at any real scale.
  • Hybrid teams book about 150 meetings a month versus 120, at $390 per meeting versus $625.
  • The BDRs who remain earn more ($110k versus $90k) for strategy and AI tool skill, not volume.

It leans on McKinsey data rather than vendor claims: only 7 percent of organisations have AI fully scaled and only 13 percent name headcount reduction as the goal. That is the corrective to both the panic and the sales pitch, and it gives you a clean split of which tasks move to AI and which stay human.

The same shift reported from inside Indian startups, with people leaders at Qure.ai and Neysa saying plainly what is losing relevance: roles limited to task execution without ownership. If you are planning an India based GTM team, this is closer to your hiring market than American job posting data.

Who Gets Hired In An AI-First World?

From Inc42 by Ankush Das 10 min read

  • Qure.ai's CPO wants AI-native problem solvers who ask the right questions, not AI research backgrounds.
  • Neysa's EVP: roles limited to task execution without ownership are becoming irrelevant.
  • Companies now track output per employee and revenue impact, not AI tool adoption rates.
  • Young Indian AI startups stay skeleton-thin, so everyone has to work across disciplines.
