A heat mapping company lost a deal it was never in. Not outsold, never evaluated. B2B is worried about being the answer ChatGPT gives; this is the step after, where nobody asks.
Our agent 10K bought a piece of software this week from a vendor we had never heard of. No search, no demo, no shortlist, no competitor ever in the deal. Amelia was rebuilding our sponsor pages. The agent said we had no heat mapping installed, that Microsoft Clarity is free with a good API, and to sign up and tell it when she was logged in. It worked in 60 seconds. She did zero research of her own. Neither of us had heard of Microsoft Clarity before that day. Somewhere there's a heat mapping company that never knew this deal existed. They weren't outsold. They were never in it. There was no evaluation to lose. Everyone in B2B is worried about AEO and GEO right now, about being the answer ChatGPT gives when someone asks for the best tool in your category. This is a step past that. Nobody asked. Amelia went from not in market to in production inside a single conversation with an agent that had already made the call and just needed her to click accept. Your GTM motion assumes a buyer who is looking. Increasingly the thing doing the looking is an agent, it decides on API quality and price in about four seconds, and it does not read your homepage.

No judgement on both btw, just interesting to observe:
Matt complains how he improved his product 10x but revenue is down by 1/3rd. Shouldn't it go up if you make the product better? The thing is every competitor also made their product 10x better using AI. So AI raised the baseline quality of everyone's apps (easier to make great apps) and increased competition (easier to enter the market)
But then one of his customers @pedrotech_ replies how he loved the app so much he decided to vibecode his own version for himself "so he didn't have to pay"
This exactly shows:
- everyone thinks they're improving their app but everyone is improving the same amount with AI (but not many realizing), it's like a race but everyone gets nitro now without realizing everyone else has nitro too
- barrier to entry is gone, anyone can just clone an app and enter as a competitor
- personal software is here, as he just cloned an existing app to not have to pay for it anymore
- he then only pays for API tokens for LLM or image models to the model hosters and model owners
So you went from a business chain of
- customer > app > ai model provider
To
- customer > ai model provider
The app layer is possibly getting removed!
