It is an industrial locality rather than a software one.

Answers about the Mysuru startup scene
What does the startup ecosystem in Mysuru look like?
It is an industrial and research ecosystem more than a venture backed one. IT services and SaaS lead by company count, but the city's distinction is hardware, with Kaynes Technology in electronics manufacturing and a medical devices cluster around Skanray and S3V Vascular. Underneath sit CFTRI and the defence food laboratory, which give Mysuru a food science bench few cities its size have. Most of the smaller companies here are bootstrapped or early stage. The companies list above shows who is building what, filterable by vertical.
Why is Mysuru called Karnataka's second IT hub?
Because of the Hebbal belt north of the city. Infosys runs its Global Education Centre there on a 337 acre campus, the largest corporate training facility in the world, with more than a million engineers trained on it, and L&T Technology Services, Wipro and Theorem run delivery operations nearby. Mysuru is second in the state for software exports, at roughly Rs 5,700 crore in FY2023-24. Worth knowing that these are campuses of companies headquartered elsewhere, not Mysuru firms.
Which companies from Mysuru have listed publicly?
Kaynes Technology, the electronics manufacturer promoted by Ramesh Kunhikannan and Savitha Ramesh, raised about Rs 858 crore in its IPO in November 2022 and has since moved into semiconductors. Excelsoft Technologies, founded in 2000 and the city's first software company, listed in November 2025. Automotive Axles, incorporated in 1981, has been listed far longer.
What is CFTRI, and what does it mean for founders here?
The Central Food Technological Research Institute, a CSIR laboratory set up in 1950 in the Cheluvamba Mansion on KRS Road, and India's principal food science research body. For founders it is the incubation stack around it. Its BioNEST centre, backed by BIRAC, has supported 26 startups across nutraceuticals, precision fermentation, probiotics and botanicals with 12 patents filed, and a Nutra-Phyto incubation centre has run since 2016 alongside a food business accelerator. The Defence Food Research Laboratory, a DRDO lab at Siddharthanagar working on combat rations and space food, sits in the same city.
Which incubators and coworking spaces are in Mysuru?
SJCE-STEP on the JSS campus is the oldest, established in 1985 with support from the Department of Science and Technology, and has backed more than 150 ventures; its focus now runs to electric mobility, IoT, robotics and drones. CFTRI covers food and biotech, and the GSSS technology business incubator opened in 2024 with a central grant of about Rs 3.75 crore and space for 30 startups in food, agro processing and healthcare. NIE, VVCE, ATME and the University of Mysore run student facing incubators. Coworking is local rather than national brand, and the spaces are listed below.
Are there investors and VCs in Mysuru?
This is the thinnest part of the ecosystem. No venture fund is headquartered in the city. The local channels are the angel arm of TiE Mysuru and the Mysore Angels network run by StartupLanes, both early stage and modest in deal volume, alongside the investor connects that the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission runs through its Beyond Bengaluru programme. Most rounds are raised in Bengaluru, about 150 km away. The investors section below lists what is active locally.
Where do founders network in Mysuru?
TiE Mysuru is the most active body, launched in August 2018 as TiE India's 23rd chapter with around 150 members, running monthly sessions and the three day TiECON Mysuru in Vijayanagar. The Karnataka Digital Economy Mission runs the Mysuru Big Tech Show at the Infosys campus through its Beyond Bengaluru programme, and CFTRI runs a Tech Connect roadshow for food processing. The free, informal founder meetup layer is thin, and what exists is largely organised from Bengaluru. The communities section below lists them.
Does eChai run events in Mysuru?

Want to help launch eChai Mysuru?
