On 29 September OpenAI announced more than twenty things at DevDay in San Francisco: dots, always-on agents with a computer of their own; GPT-6.1 Sol, which OpenAI says comes close to Astra at a fifth of the price; ChatGPT Space and Pages for teams working alongside agents; Codex in the cloud, computer use in the Agents API, and a Pro 500 plan. We are collecting the launches in OpenAI's own words, what was shown on stage, what people tried and argued about in the first hours, and the night before, each in the poster's own words. OpenAI's own list of what it launched at DevDay on 29 September, in five parts. New ways of working: dots, always-on agents powered by GPT-6 Astra with a cloud computer of their own, on Pro and Business Premium first; GPT-6.1 Sol, which OpenAI says comes close to Astra at a fifth of its price; Ultrafast, a speed tier up to eight times faster in Codex; and Private Intelligence for businesses. For developers: Codex in the cloud, a Codex CLI you can steer by voice, code review in the desktop app, Codex Security Cloud, a Decisions API built on Luna, and computer use in the Agents API, which Amazon also runs as Bedrock Managed Agents. For plugins: extensions that live in ChatGPT's sidebar, a new submission flow, plugins inside Sites, and MCP events that start automations. For teams: ChatGPT Space, Pages, shared slides, team tasks, @ChatGPT in Slack and Teams, a Meetings plugin and shareable profiles. For subscribers: Sign in with ChatGPT across 16 partner tools, a Pro 500 tier at 25 times the Plus allowance, and an OpenAI Marketplace where an enterprise's OpenAI commitment can pay for partner software.

OpenAI's launch film for dots, which runs two and a half minutes and plays where it was posted. Dots have a cloud computer and browser of their own, reach more than 4,000 apps through ChatGPT's plugins, learn from feedback, and can be messaged or called in ChatGPT and messaged in Slack and Teams. They roll out first on Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise plans in eligible markets: each person starts with one primary dot and names it, and OpenAI says teams of dots come later. When a dot works in the background on its own, OpenAI's page says it is limited to read-only tools.

I have been testing it for the last few days and it’s something special.

Proactive capabilities are really great.

I used it to organize my entire DevDay from travels to session/meetings setup.

It has its own computer.

Has come great note taking tools for organising work and it’s only going to get better for collaboration.

Token Gremlin, reading the API's price list minutes after GPT-6.1 Sol appeared in it. OpenAI's own page puts it at $2 per million input tokens, $0.10 cached and $10 output, and says it matches Astra on its coding benchmark at about a fifth of the cost.

Looks basically unchanged from GPT-6 Sol pricing (unless I’m missing something).

Now I really want to see where the actual gains landed in the benchmarks.

I’ll explain the new Pro 200 plan differently, before I start live tweeting from DevDay on things that are going out!

Today we are going to ship a number of things that increase what you can do across the Plus and Pro plans. A lot of compute is online for this increase. As we increase the floor, we are changing the relative difference between plans to be

Plus = 1X
Pro 100 = 5X
Pro 200 = 10X

and we are reopening subscriptions for Pro 200 (we had paused it). If you have an existing plan you will keep the 20X multiplier for a bit and also receive a lot of additional credits because we know changes are hard even if it means that everyone will get more in the end.

Same model price + half the budget → roughly half the usage, given comparable tasks and settings.

So: $200 plan is now $100 plan, $20 is now $10. What the frick.

Announcing this cut right before DevDay is the most absurd timing imaginable.

It will cast a negative shadow over DevDay and reflect poorly on the event. I understand that OpenAI is facing compute issues - to the point where they even had to pause new subscriptions - but this cut is going to backfire.

This is sad and very bad news (especially for Astra users), right ahead of the exciting DevDay today, but I guess there is never a good time for bad news & for things that need to be done

It has been clear for a while that the Pro 20x plan was too good to be true and would not last long

Sam said back in January 2025 that they were losing money on Pro, and that was the o1 era, before having Codex running all day

The $200 Pro plan reopened to new subscribers with its usage counted a new way, which by Tibo's own arithmetic nets out at half the dollar value in API spend of the old plan. It was seen more than twelve million times, and it set the mood of the morning before the keynote.

Hi,

Tomorrow we are re-opening the Pro $200 subscriptions to new subscribers, but together with it we are also changing how we calculate the usage for it. In effect, if you do the math, it will net out at half the dollar in API spend compared to the old Pro $200 plan.

Now that it's said, let me explain why this is happening and why you will still get more work done than if you were on the Pro $200 subscription one month ago.

(a) We didn't want to compromise in other ways and are committing to not reintroducing the 5h limit, so that you can fully use the weekly usage when you want.
(b) On the subscription, we guarantee that over time you always get more work done and with an increasing level of quality. This means that you will continue to get more value per dollar spent as a result of models getting more efficient and us passing down the improvements in the form of API price reductions.
(c) We don't want to put an incentive on ourselves to artificially inflate the API list prices to make it look like you are getting a lot (and workaround it through discounts, etc). Instead we want to continue to both rapidly reduce prices and increase capabilities of models on the API. This week we introduced GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna at 50% of their previous price. Over time, we see prices go low enough that it makes sense for most to buy usage as needed without there being a significant gap between what you get in a subscription and what you get in the API for a dollar spent.
(d) Tomorrow, we are adding more things to the subscription that won't draw on the usage, I won't reveal what that is yet.

I wanted to be transparent before all the big announcements tomorrow. Lots of new exciting things are coming to the subscriptions that will make it super compelling, but I wanted to make sure to share this change ahead of time so you can all understand it before we shower you with good news.
