Description

Sound is the energy, the precondition, which first enabled language – a code.
In this session we will decode the fundamentals of sound, understand the various uses of filters and effects and confront the limitations of our perception by visiting concepts like auditory illusions.

Learning aspects of Sound Engineering and design, Learning about Physics and Acoustics, and how we perceive sound, how our brain works and what are the limitations of our brain (deep dive into psychoacoustics).

It’s a chance for you to look at sound in an all new light and explore how technology can enable machines to recognise and acknowledge acoustical information in terms of space and time. How to manipulate the previous information with the help of computers or micro-controllers.

Concepts will be Live Coded and demonstrated by building simple fundamental blocks of effects, sound generators and filters.

Class Goals

To develop fundamental semantics of sound and how technology can be applied in order to use them for various actuations.

Prerequisites

Enthusiasm for sound, music and/or technology.
Being a sound engineer, musician or coder is not necessary.

He is the founder of Sound.Codes which researches in music technology and provides solutions to music producers, researchers and artists alike. Akash has created several algorithms for sound processing and data manipulation. Using some of his algorithms, he has created a site-responsive installation to explore anthrophony. In 2016 he was invited as a member of an International panel of Artist to CeC (Carnival of e-creativity) supported by The Department of Arts & Culture, Government of Meghalaya and The AeA (Academy of Electronic Arts).
