We dive into history, exploring India’s 2600-yr tradition of coins; see how Shyam Bedekar’s remarkable invention is enabling him and his wife to create social impact across India and beyond; experience a young woman’s drive to bring textbook science theories to life for children; and take a journey to the dark depths of coal mining and its bitter consequences for our own people.
Uplifting stories and thought-provoking experiences come together to take you on a roller coaster journey of ideas.
Here is the speaker lineup of Josh Talks Ahmedabad 2017 :
-Aruna Chandrashekhar is a journalist and researcher who studied the human rights and environmental impact of coal mining in Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh for 3 years. She published an Amnesty International report on her findings.
-Indu Harikumar is an artist who created an art project called 100 Indian Tinder Tales. The campaign went viral on social media, and as people shared their tinder experiences, she converted them into illustrations. So, what's India's experience on Tinder? Indu will tell us...
-Aditi Gupta wants to change our cultural attitude to menstruation. Why is it a taboo subject? She and her partner Tuhin Paul took a unique approach to educating teen and pre-teen girls about menstruation. They created a comic called Menstrupedia that answers questions and busts myths. It's traveled India and been translated into multiple languages.
-Monica Yadav with Respire Experiential Learning, brings science theory to life for children. In fact, was science ever meant to stay within the confines of textbooks? How about involving children in building the theories into real life working models - that's Monica's big idea. As she encourages children to get creative with science, the sparks of imagination begin to fly.
-Dr Tejas Naik is known in the medical community as a celebrated pediatric surgeon. For the rest of the world, however, he is a traveler and collector with an extraordinary fascination for coins, artefacts, symbols, and relics from times past. His home is a museum, and a work of art. In its shelves and cases and corners, it contains 100 million years of world history. All it takes to book a tour and a wonderful host is a phone call.
- Shyam Bedekar is an entrepreneur who is using excellent business management and a science invention to transform the menstrual health of rural women in Gujarat.
