Poke the Bear Cold Call Script

Josh Braun · joshbraun.com Free Intermediate

A word-for-word script showing the six moves (permission, verification, context, problem, labelling, poke) on a real product. It is the clearest demonstration of selling by making someone curious instead of making them defensive.

  • Six stages: permission, verification, context, problem question, labeling, then poke the bear.
  • Poking means quoting a benchmark for their size ("it takes a few days to send statements") and asking how that compares.
  • Open by admitting the call is unexpected and asking for help, rather than claiming a reason to call.
  • Only tease the solution after they have said the pain out loud themselves.

The question it answers

  1. Who should I actually learn cold outbound from, and what do the very best do differently on a call?
