Bengaluru is India's startup capital, and it got there the long way. Public-sector science (IISc, ISRO, HAL, the PSUs) gave the city a deep engineering base decades before software. Infosys and Wipro turned that talent into wealth and a generation of people who had seen a company built from nothing. Then Flipkart proved Indian consumer internet could work, and its alumni founded the next wave: PhonePe, Cure.fit, Udaan, Groww, Navi and dozens more.
The result is a loop: one company's early team becomes the next companies' founders. Capital followed the talent, and by Inc42's count in August 2026, 55 of India's unicorns are based in Bengaluru, more than in any other city.
Today the city builds across nearly every category at once, from fintech, SaaS and AI to healthtech, mobility, deeptech and consumer brands. The pages below map that ecosystem vertical by vertical, and point you to where founders actually meet.
